Featured plant is the Norway Maple (Acer platanoides). Mature trees reach 70 feet, cast dense shade, and endlessly produce saplings with opposite leaves that exude a milky latex.

WHY IT'S BAD:

A widely planted mistake, its seedlings hide in hedges and under shrubs until thay are too big to pull easily and can crack sidewalks and foundations. It is impossible to establish a lawn under their canopy with the dense shade and surface roots. They threaten other trees with their aggressive growth habit.

WHAT TO DO:

Remove saplings by digging or weed wrenching. Throughly rake up fallen seeds in the fall. Small trees can be cut down and stems painted with Roundup between early September and late October. Use a hatchet to make a 1" cut around the trunk and squirt Roundup in the wound. Call us for a quote to remove larger trees and stumps that are near a building.
